Megantic, a leading Organic Search (SEO) specialist agency focused on eCommerce, is continuously setting trends in the digital industry. At the 2024 Global Search Awards, they were excited to celebrate after being awarded the prestigious Best APAC SEO Campaign award for work with client House of Golf.

The bread and putter of House of Golf

House of Golf is an Australian online store that has several physical store locations throughout Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Their product range revolves around everything golf and overlaps largely with all large and smaller golf shops both online and offline.

They engaged Megantic’s SEO services in June 2023 having recently undertaken a migration from WordPress to Shopify. In short, this was a failed migration with significant detriment to organic positions and overall revenue.

The campaign was a real hole-in-one

After discussions around post-migration recovery timelines, Megantic worked with the House of Golf team to highlight the following year-over-year objectives for the first quarter of the 2024 year (January to March).

Objectives:

  • Increase organic sessions by 20%
  • Increase organic new users by 15%
  • Grow organic revenue by 10%
  • Increase location-based sessions by 10% per state
  • Resurrect keyword positions and drive new growth of top 3 and page 1 keywords by +20% each

All objectives were exceeded for House of Golf, surpassing client expectations and leading to Megantic focusing on new growth areas for continual expansion.

Results:

  • Increased organic sessions by 33.07%
  • Increase organic new users by 20.61%
  • Grew organic revenue by 12.79%
  • Increased location-based sessions an average of 21.63% per state
    • Victoria: 20.16%
    • New South Wales: 15.70%
    • Queensland: 22.40%
    • Western Australia: 17.40%
    • South Australia: 16.93%
    • Tasmania: 37.18%
  • Grew top 3 keywords by 132.52%
  • Grew page 1 keywords by 74.77%

Driving home the SEO results

Megantic’s partnership with House of Golf is a prime example of a successful eCommerce SEO strategy. The campaign began at a challenging moment, following a domain migration that left the site at its lowest point in terms of rankings. Through strategic efforts, the teams Global Search Awards 2024 PR Blog- House of Golf

achieved consistent, compounding growth, breaking records for top 3 and page 1 keyword rankings just six months post-migration, and continuing this every month thereafter.

A significant achievement in this campaign was surpassing dominant competitors in the market by expanding the keyword base to include both broad and long-tail keywords, with a strong focus on revenue-generating terms.

Collaboration played a key role in the campaign’s success. Megantic worked closely with the House of Golf team to become a part of their business processes. Discussions around product range and business expansion heavily involved the agency’s expertise.

“From commencement, collaborating closely together was a key part of driving the campaign’s success,” recounts Technical Project Manager, Lachlan Byrne.

“We worked heavily on addressing total market opportunities and optimising the website to capitalise on this. There was a large focus for Megantic to address website migration recovery and growth plans, while the House of Golf internal team addressed the many tech stack changes on the new Shopify platform. Winning this award was a great recognition for the work put in by House of Golf and the entire Megantic team.”

Ultimately, the campaign exceeded both client and internal expectations, allowing us to explore new areas for growth and continue expanding the brand’s reach.
